About PDF Toolkit
Adds a password to a PDF so only people who know it can open it. The file is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest PDF encryption, and you can stop printing, copying or editing too. Encryption happens in your browser, so neither the PDF nor the password leaves your device.
When people use it
- Emailing a document with personal or financial details
- Sending contracts, offer letters or ID proofs safely
- Keeping medical reports or certificates private on a shared computer
- Sharing a file that should be read but not printed or copied
Questions
How strong is the protection?
The PDF is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest method the PDF format supports. A long, unusual password matters as much as the encryption.
What if I forget the password?
It can’t be recovered, by us or anyone else. Keep a copy of the original PDF or store the password somewhere safe.
Does blocking printing and copying always work?
Most PDF readers honour it, but those limits are weaker than the password itself. The password is what keeps the file private.
